Some changes we choose: a new job, a move across the world, the decision to leave something that no longer fits. Other changes choose us: a diagnosis, a divorce, a parent who needs us, children who suddenly don't. Either way, life transitions have a way of shaking the ground we thought was solid.
In more than 25 nearly 30 years of working with people, I've noticed something. The change itself is rarely the hardest part. The hardest part is the in-between, when the old chapter has ended and the new one hasn't taken shape yet. That's where hypnotherapy can help.
Why transitions feel so hard, even when they're good
Your mind loves what is familiar. Even a routine that no longer serves you feels safe, simply because you know it. So when life changes, your nervous system often reads it as a threat. You might notice:
Trouble sleeping, or waking at 3 a.m. with a busy mind
Second-guessing decisions you would normally make with ease
Feeling tired, flat or overwhelmed without a clear reason
Old habits creeping back: snacking, scrolling, smoking, overworking, shopping
A quiet voice asking, "Who am I now?"
None of this means you're doing it wrong: it means a part of you is trying to keep you safe using an old map. Your subconscious mind isn't trying to sabotage you. It's doing its best with what it has learned. So instead of asking "What's wrong with me?", we can ask a kinder question: "What has my mind learned to expect?"
What hypnotherapy actually does
Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention. You've been in it many times: absorbed in a good book, driving a familiar road, or drifting just before sleep. In a session, I guide you into that relaxed, focused state on purpose. You stay aware and in control the whole time. Nobody can make you do anything you don't want to do.
In that state, it becomes easier to work with the part of your mind where habits, beliefs and emotional patterns live. Instead of only talking about change, we help your mind and body feel it.
My work rests on three steps I call Renegotiation · Reparenting · Reclamation. We renegotiate the old agreements your mind made to keep you safe. We offer the younger parts of you the care and reassurance they needed. And you reclaim the parts of yourself that got set aside along the way.
How hypnotherapy supports you through change
It calms your nervous system. When you feel safer in your body, you think more clearly. Many clients tell me the first thing they notice is better sleep and a quieter mind.
It loosens beliefs that kept you small. "I'm too old to start over." "I always get it wrong." "I need to have it all figured out first." These beliefs often made sense once. Hypnotherapy helps you notice them and choose new ones whether to rewrite them, upgrade them or let them go.
It rebuilds self-trust. Transitions ask you to make decisions without a guarantee. We practice connecting with your own inner wisdom, so you can take the next step without needing to see the whole staircase.
It lets you rehearse the future. In hypnosis you can picture yourself handling a new role, a hard conversation or a fresh start with calm. Your mind treats that rehearsal as experience, which makes the real moment feel more familiar.
I often remind clients: we cannot control the events in our lives, but we can control our responses to them. That's where the real freedom is.

What working together looks like
We start with a free 15-minute call to see if we're a good fit. Sessions are 60 minutes, online over Zoom, or in person when I'm in town (I'm currently seeing clients in Santa Ana, Costa Rica), in English, Spanish or Italian. Most people work with me for a short series of about four sessions, and I offer a 4-session package for exactly that. and I always send you a recording of the hypnosis to use at home between sessions. Every time you listen, your subconscious keeps updating and upgrading the old patterns, with ease.
This is practical, grounded work. My aim is simple: to help you move through change with more awareness, more trust in yourself, and a little more ease.
Frequently asked questions
Can hypnotherapy help with a life transition if I don't have a specific problem? Yes. Many people come to me simply feeling unsettled or stuck between chapters. We work on calm, clarity and self-trust, which helps whatever the next step turns out to be.
How many sessions will I need? It depends on you, but most clients work with me for around four sessions, then come back for a session if a new change arises.
Is online hypnotherapy as effective as in person? For most people, yes. Many find it easier to relax at home, in their own space.
